Biomass NRG For or Against

Wood Energy is one of the UK's leading wood-fuel heating businesses, providing over a third of the country's total wood heat capacity and saving almost 12,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year through its boiler installations. Based in Devon, the company helped to set up the UK's only accredited wood-fuel training course for the industry to help raise standards. It has also worked hard to ensure a reliable supply of fuel for the heating systems it installs, by supporting local wood-fuel supply businesses and pellet mills. Benefiting from the growing demand for wood-fuel -- which is now cheaper than fossil fuels -- the business is helping the UK meet its carbon reduction targets.

End of the plastic bag and discarded plastic bottle problem huh? - Yet so far the chorus against biomass energy is pretty quiet as compared to the chorus against CO2 emissions as a cause of climate change or is it?

Read more about this here, find evidence-based resources about biofuels, biomass and biochar, find out about our UK and US campaigns, or take part in our email action alerts.  http://www.biofuelwatch.org.uk/

Creating a Buzz with Social Media

‘Mom, may I take the dog for a walk around the block?'

Mom replies, ‘No, because she is in heat.'

‘What's that mean?' asked the child.

‘Go ask your father. I think he's in the garage.'

The little girl goes to the garage and says, ‘Dad, may I take Belle for a walk around the block? I asked Mom, but she said the dog was in heat, and to come to you.'

Dad said, ‘Bring Belle over here.' He took a rag, soaked it with gasoline, and scrubbed the dog's backside with it to disguise the scent, and said ‘OK, you can go now, but keep Belle on the leash and only go one time round the block.'

The little girl left and returned a few minutes later with no dog on the leash.

Surprised, Dad asked, ‘Where's Belle?'

(YOU'RE GONNA LOVE THIS!!!!!!!! ! )

The little girl said, ‘She ran out of gas about halfway down the block, so another dog is pushing her home.'

File on 4 - PFI Profits

For two decades, the Private Finance Initiative has been a controversial way of building new hospitals, schools, roads and prisons. Well over £200bn of taxpayers' money has been committed to the companies managing these projects. The coalition government describes some PFI contracts as 'ghastly' and wants some of this cash back. One cabinet minister says 'the people on the other side must have been laughing all the way to the bank'.

But, while public services are facing cuts, PFI payments are guaranteed under watertight contracts. So experts say the government can win only small amounts in rebates. Much of the money has already gone offshore. Huge profits have been made by selling and reselling many contracts in a secretive 'secondary market' - with none of the proceeds returning to the taxpayer.

- File on 4: PFI Profits -

Gerry Northam investigates gaps in HM Treasury's knowledge of this trade and asks if PFI represents value for public money. Producer: Rob Cave.

Forty years ago, hippies and hackers came together to produce the first attempts at online community. Rory follows the trend through to the arrival of the World Wide Web, which turned a mass audience on to the internet and social networking.

"I suppose it was slightly unrealistic to expect the secret of happiness in around three minutes:

(" What were you expecting, magic? ) The whole point is that there is no secret. Decide to be happy and do it. It's from an old "Wear a seat belt" commercial from the 70's. The idea was if you love someone, make sure they wear their seat belt. The song they sung during the commercial was "Go belt someone today."

Personally I love the Laserpod Supernova as you have more control over the effects and it is a smaller unit. The only thing I miss is the cloud effect of the Laser Theatre. If you want more of a 'realistic' space scene then choose the Laser Theatre. If you want to marvel at a more futuristic sky with darting colours, stars and shapes produced by a crystal then go for the Supernova

Melvyn Bragg and his guests discuss the medieval university

Melvyn Bragg and his guests discuss the medieval universities. Within the 11th and 12th centuries a brand new kind of institution began to seem within the main cities of Europe. The very first universities were these of Bologna and Paris; within a hundred years comparable educational organisations had been springing up all more than the continent. The first universities primarily based their research around the liberal arts curriculum, a mix of seven separate disciplines derived through the educational theories of Ancient Greece.

The universities provided coaching for all those intending to embark on careers in the Church, the law and education. They provided a new focus for intellectual life in Europe, and exerted a substantial affect on society around them. And also the university model proved so robust that many of those institutions and their medieval improvements nonetheless exist today.

Coming to America Victoria Beckham 1/8

The one and only episode that was aired for this show. This is when the Beckhams were moving to the USA and Victoria came to prepare everything for David and the Kids arrival. Victoria had a blast with this and makes fun of herself every chance she gets. A great show I thought anyway.

This revealing special hour delves into Victoria's larger-than-life world to reveal, among other things, her wicked sense of humour and style. Her willingness to poke fun at her image leads to some of the most insightful and hilarious moments, as Victoria enlists her tight circle of friends to shop for a new home and settle into life in Los Angeles.

Our World, What, When, Why,

The president of Earth Policy Institute presents his thesis on how best to save mankind. Past stabilizing global warming, he advocates many actions, such as maximizing utilization of the world's land to better feed the globe population, stabilizing the world's population through world-wide entry to family members planning methods and redesigning metropolitan areas. The occasion is in Chicago.

Lester Brown is the writer of the lately printed guide World on the Edge - How you can Prevent Environmental and Economic Collapse.

He thinks the world has to mobilize to embrace sustainability within the same way that the much from the western globe mobilized to battle in Globe War II. With his Washington policy makers' concentrate, he calls it the Pearl Harbour model. Tune in to this podcast is a must

We require to know the accurate costs of performing company inside a fragile globe, he says. This will help to offer a technique for avoiding what he foresees as decline and collapse.

Wind power, small hydro, landfill gas, and concentrated solar power technologies will all fetch a higher price for the electricity they produce, from Eskom, which will run the single buyer office.
This higher tariff allows renewable energy project developers to cover their costs and make a decent return on invest, because renewable energy is more expensive to generate than coal-fired power. The Refit has been outlined, and now the details are being finalised.

Words of Wisdom Why Worry

There were a few lines in this book that jumped off the page when I first read them

- Worry; a sustained form of fear caused by indecision -

– Perpetual worry will get you to one place ahead of time – - the cemetery -

- If you cannot help worrying, Remember that worrying cannot help you -

– So Why Worry? ~
The secret of Health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, or not to anticipate troubles, But to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly…
Buddha

– How much pain worries have cost us that have never happened? -
Thomas Jefferson

In a nutshell – “We will have to deal with what we worry about at the time we have to deal with it, So what is the point in worrying about it?”

Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do, but it gets you nowhere." ~Glenn Turner
