What is a "Water Car" anyhow? To tell you the truth, after 3 years in this business I'm not sure. Rumors say that there are water cars running on water only. My business and life partner, Alexis, is moving from sunny California to Colorado in just a couple of weeks. There are boxes and boxes of her stuff all around the house in preparation for the big move.

She told me yesterday that when she gets to her new home, she is going to get rid of a bunch of stuff that she no longer needs or finds useful.

We need to do the same things with the junk and beliefs that we have in our minds that are no longer useful or we no longer believe to be true.

Today, I was doing a coaching call for the Dave & Alexis Business Breakthrough members. I’m on a roll, things are going great, and then BANG, out the blue I say something that I was taught years ago that I no longer believe.

When I said it, it didn’t feel good because I no longer hold that belief. Of course, instead of just stopping and saying, “Hey, wait a minute, that was a mistake and not what I meant,” I tried to justify what I said instead of just explaining what I really meant.  (Have you ever tried to justify what you said even though you knew you weren’t right?)

It’s important for all of us to examine our beliefs in all the areas of our lives and see if they are still true for us and serve us.  This is not easy because our beliefs are, well, what we believe. But by taking a step back and questioning your beliefs you can consciously decide what is true for you and discard what no longer is.

It’s not easy but doing this will help you run your business and your life consciously so you get the results you really, really, really want.

Although the average human brain is better equipped for mammoth hunting than using websites, we're not all average. In fact, there are huge individual differences in user performance: the top 25% of users are 2.4 times better than the bottom 25%.

At the extreme, only about 4% of the population has enough brainpower to perform complex cognitive tasks such as making high-level inferences using specialized background knowledge. Most likely, you're in this elite group. And, worse yet, so are many other members of your Internet team. (And the rest are definitely in the top 25%, which is also much better than average users.)

That your own short-term memory may hold two more items than most users' might not seem like a lot. But if your website blocks off short-term memory slots by requiring users to remember extraneous information, a little extra STM capacity can make all the difference in usability. You still have enough spare slots to think about the product line, but if your customers exhaust their brain capacity, they'll find your site very frustrating indeed.

Even though it's a bad course title, it's a good overall mnemonic to design for cavemen and their literal-minded and limited-capacity brains. After all, your paying customers are only one step out of the cave.

Earth Crust Displacement 2012 & Charles Hapgood

2012 the Hollywood movie centralized its core theme around the mega-disaster scenario first expounded by Charles H. Hapgood whom was a professor of the history of science at Keene College in New Hampshire. In this theory the entire crust of the planet Earth moves as one piece displacement of the physical poles into new locations would occur.

The most vocal modern researcher of the theory is Patrick Geryl. Mr Geryl insists that the Maya and Egyptians knew of this phenomenon and predicted it for 21-12-2012. Actually an enormous chunk of the 2012 movie seems to be lifted from his work. For those not familiar with him he has stated that the safest place on Earth will be the Drakensburg Mountains of South Africa. It is then likely no coincidence then that the closing scenes of the film has the survivors on course for that precise location!

In his research project Hapgood found the various ancient maps of the world that depict a very different planet which included a lost land mass (such as the infamous Piri Reis map). These often depict some geographic areas as ice free, for example Antarctica, which should of course not be in human history. Ancient maps should not be depicting such things, in fact Antarctica was not ‘officially’ discovered until 1820.

Crust plates move [plate tectonics] over time so we do know the Earth crust is unstable. The current consensus is that this is a very slow geological process which takes millions of years to produce even barely observable changes.

Hapgood sought out a mechanism that could explain radical shifts and changes of polar locations. His theory sought to explain a crust shift of some 30 degrees in a short period of time. No easy feat!

When surveying the goals of transhumanists, I found it striking how heavily many of them favor conventional engineering. This seems inefficient and inelegant, since such engineering reproduces slowly, clumsily and imperfectly, what biological systems have fine-tuned for eons, from nanobots (enzymes and miRNAs) to virtual reality (lucid dreaming).

Recently, I was reading an article about memory chips. In it, the primary researcher makes two statements that fall in the "not even wrong" category: "Brain cells are nothing but leaky bags of salt solution," and "I don't need a grand theory of the mind to fix what is essentially a signal-processing problem."

And it came to me in a flash that many transhumanists are uncomfortable with biology and would rather bypass it altogether for two reasons, each exemplified by these sentences. The first is that biological systems are squishy — they exude blood, sweat and tears, which are deemed proper only for women and weaklings. The second is that, unlike silicon systems, biological software is inseparable from hardware. And therein lies the major stumbling block to personal immortality.

I just recorded this 4 minute unscripted video to give you some insights into my current thinking on the issues of the past few weeks:

After I finished recording the video, I watched it and made some notes about what I had said. Let me clarify a few points:

We're not at war with Affiliate Marketers ... the more we think about it, we're really at war with people who submit highly derivative content ... You know the type ... You've seen this type of low value article as it looks like yet another rehashed works of every other similar kind of article instead of the fresh perspective that a true expert in their niche delivers.

Those who write & submit high value exclusive rights content have nothing to worry about.

Are you really an expert author if you write highly derivative content? No.

Ideal members write original content and own the exclusive rights to that content.

What's the ideal word count? 400-800 words.

Get this: Over 142,000 articles are currently in "Problem Status." Of those, 41% are under 399 words. Compare that to those that are over 750+ words which account for 1-2% of the total. That means you can significantly increase your chances of having your article accepted purely by increasing your word count to the 400+ range. Watch for a full blog post this week with the details on this internal stats study.

Don't increase your word count for word count sake. More filler words that say the same thing really adds no value. Instead, find ways to add your unique perspective, your unique expertise and how that can help your ideal reader to improve their situation. Use bullet points, numbered lists, etc.

As for the big "crack down" on low value content: We've been raising our standards every single month since we started. The only thing changing is the pace at which we raise our quality standards.

This wasn't just a business decision that affected us but it will also impact you because your high quality articles will have less competition for our million+ daily visitors when you don't have to compete with low value derivative content. We have an obligation to protect the massive time investment our ideal members have had over the years.

Don't worry about rejection. Even the best writers get rejected from time to time. Use the rejection process to learn our Editorial Guidelines. We know it takes time to learn and understand our 5-6 pages of guidelines. It's ok to make mistakes along the way.

Keep on writing & submitting your best quality original articles as that's the best way to get high-value traffic & exposure back to your website.

My goal for doing this quick video was to reassure 99% of our membership that they have NOTHING to worry about. If anything, they will see an improvement in the quality of content that will be side-by-side to their articles. That's healthy for competition because no one wants to put their high value articles next to low value rehashed/regurgitated works, right?! Right on. :)
